Experimental build: New weight gain mechanics


I’m working on new weight gain mechanics. The digestive process now looks like this:

  1. Fen eats you
  2. Your liveness starts going down. When it reaches zero, you’re dead, and Fen belches. Live prey make Fen’s gut slosh and wobble.
  3. The lower your liveness is, the faster your intactness drops. When it reaches zero, Fen’s stomach is completely rounded out.
  4. The lower your intactness is, the faster your mass drops. When it reaches zero, Fen’s stomach is flat.
  5. When prey loses mass, Fen gains an equivalent amount of spare mass. This mass contributes to weight gain.
  6. When Fen has spare mass, its metabolism starts going up. This takes around ten seconds right now.
  7. Once Fen’s metabolism is high enough, spare mass is rapidly turned into size.

This build changes the second half of the process – it used to just directly add to size and weight. The new system allows for one of my favorite things to happen: prey digests -> predator gets heavy -> predator grows and slims back down

Some other random stuff:

  • The “Hungry” mode now guarantees that Fen will eat you. “Famished” makes it swallow you in one gulp, even if Fen hasn’t gotten that big.
  • I dramatically cut the camera wobble – it now ignores about 75% of the rotation of the head. This might become an issue once I add animated leaning…but I’ll figure it out! I’ll add settings for this at some point, since it does make a lot of sense for the found-footage camera.
